Keeping someone posted

I had a great conversation with someone sitting next to me at a meetup a couple of months ago, connected on LinkedIn, exchanged a few messages about going into software engineering. I shared my experience and didn't say anything particularly insightful, and he said he would reach out again later.

I was happy with where the conversation ended; admittedly, I wasn't expecting him to reach out again because, well, most people don't follow up unless they want something from you.

I'm writing about this because I was wrong and pleasantly surprised: today, I received a message from him letting me know that he's landed a new role (yay!), and thanking me for the conversation.

That's such a nice thing to do. If only networking were always like this...
