Organising an event well

Organising an event well takes a lot of effort, be it a company celebration or a small family festive gathering.

Important things such as having a venue booked for a given time, organising catering, and making sure equipment are available, are all just the beginning of organising an event.

To do it well you need to be comfortable with the fact that it's an iterative process: checking in with guests and any special preferences they may have, answering questions about ambiguous details and updating them, having contingencies for risks and uncertainties, and so on.

If everyone comes to your event feeling informed and prepared, and leaves happily having gotten what they expected and more, you've probably done a great job — especially if they keep coming back.
